Your privacy matters deeply to us at Private Notes. This page outlines our approach to managing your data securely and transparently.
Private Notes is a free web tool for crafting encrypted notes. You can share them via self-destructing HTTPS links that expire after being viewed once.
We don’t distribute these links—sharing them is your responsibility. Consider how you send them, as using email or chat apps may expose links to third parties.
The encryption key exists only in your browser and the link—never on our servers. If you lose the link, the note is unrecoverable.
Since we never see the key, we cannot access your notes. Even our admin team is locked out of this data.
By default, a note is permanently erased once opened. If you schedule delayed deletion, the note stays online for that duration, regardless of views.
Unread notes are deleted after 30 days. Without the key in the link, the data remains unreadable, even in the event of a breach.
We process IPs only during your interaction with the platform. They are not stored long-term and are disposed of once their role is fulfilled.
You may input sensitive info into your note. While it’s encrypted, we do not track or log identifying IPs, reinforcing your anonymity.
Only those who have the encrypted link (usually the sender and recipient) can decrypt the note. We don’t possess the ability to access or decrypt note contents.
By opening a Private Notes link, you agree that we’re not liable for the content of the message shared.
We never sell or share your data. It’s used strictly as detailed in this policy and only when absolutely necessary.
To enhance usability, we use cookies—small files stored in your browser. These help us improve functionality and may occasionally support promotional content. Types of cookies we use include session tracking and preference memory.
You can change your choice at any time in our privacy center.
